Member Spotlight: Meet Claire McGuinness

How long have you been a member of the Austin Bar and what is your favorite thing about the organization?
I’ve been a member of the Austin Bar for a few years. I like that the Austin Bar brings the local legal Headshot-Claire-McGuinness-1community together and offers so many opportunities to learn about various practice areas and give back to the community.

What do you like most about being in the legal field?
I like that it provides an opportunity to have a meaningful impact on people’s lives and the community in general. As an attorney at the Texas Department of Transportation, I’ve helped to negotiate agreements for transportation projects that will help communities develop and grow and will be around for generations.

If you weren’t a lawyer what would you be?
I’d be a travel guidebook writer. I love to travel.

What’s the craziest job (other than lawyer) that you’ve had?
I spent a summer working at an amusement park making funnel cakes. It was a lot of fun and I had the art of making funnel cakes perfected by the end of the summer.

If you were a character in a movie or a TV show, which character would you be?
Liz Lemon on 30 Rock. She’s kind of a nerd, works with great people and spends many of her days working to prevent or resolve random problems.

As part of the #austinbarinaction campaign, how are you making your world a better place to be?
Adoption Day is my favorite event and I look forward to it every year. It is so gratifying to be a part of helping a child be adopted into a forever family.
