Fit Bar: Sneaker Drive Underway

The Austin Bar Fit Bar team is holding a sneaker drive for the month of January.

According to the City of Austin, an average of 2,000 homeless adults and children are living on the street, in emergency shelters, or in transitional housing. Many of them do not have proper footwear to help through Austin’s coldest and wettest months in February and March. A pair of shoes can provide protection from the elements, warmth, ease of transportation, and a boost of confidence. To help, the Austin Bar “Fit Bar” team is collecting gently worn athletic or running shoes of any size.

If you would like to donate shoes, please drop them off at the following sites between Jan. 1 – 31.
Austin Bar Association – 816 Congress Ave., Suite 700
Larrick Law Firm – 1502 West Ave.
Law Offices of Nikki Maples – 1717 W. 6th St. Suite 315
The Stewart Law Firm 3000 South I-35 #130
Whitehurst, Harkness, Brees, Cheng, Alsaffar & Higginbotham – 7500 Rialto Building 2, Suite 250

If you have any questions, please email Elizabeth Larrick or call 512.893.5700.

The Austin Resource Center for the Homeless (ARCH) will help distribute the shoes. ARCH is located in downtown Austin and provides immediate assistance to the homeless by allowing them to take showers and providing hygiene items and clothing. ARCH also offers various services including legal assistance, job training, healthcare, and case management.
