Volunteer for LegalLine, January 8

Time: 5:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m.

Austin Young Lawyers Association and Lawyer Referral Service are looking for volunteers for LegalLine, which will be held the second Tuesday of this month due to the holidays. LegalLine provides the public the opportunity to obtain answers to simple legal questions from licensed attorneys. Please e-mail Adam Schramek if you would like to volunteer.

Renew Bar Membership by January 15 for Judicial Preference Poll Eligibility

The Austin Bar Association's Judicial Preference Poll will be e-mailed to all Austin Bar members on Tuesday, Jan. 29. 2008 dues must be paid by Jan. 15 to be eligible to vote in the poll. You can renew your dues online by visiting https://www.austinbar.org/pages/login to sign in, then clicking on Renew.

The poll will be available online through Ballot Box and at the Austin Bar office from 8:00 a.m. on Jan. 29 through 5:00 p.m. on Wednesday, Feb. 13. For those members who have not provided an e-mail address to the Bar office, postcard ballots will be mailed on Jan. 29.

AYLA Winter CLE & Brown Bag Lunch, January 23

Each quarter, AYLA holds a free CLE for its members over a lunch hour. This Winter, the CLE will focus on the basics of DWI law and other common criminal matters. As anyone who practices law knows, friends, family, and clients expect you to be a legal expert on every topic, especially criminal law.

The Winter CLE will be a panel discussion by Corrine Sumpter, David Gonzalez, and Kristin Etter to help civil practitioners heroically answer (or learn just enough to appropriately avoid answering) criminal law questions. So grab some lunch and head over to the Bar offices on Jan. 23.
