Results Released for 2010 Judicial Preference Poll
Thanks to everyone who voted in the Austin Bar Association's 2010 Judicial Preference Poll. Click here for the results.
946 members of the Austin Bar participated in the 2010 poll. Only contested judicial races are included in the Preference Poll. (Candidates for the Third Court of Appeals are included in the State Bar of Texas poll.)
For each race, Austin Bar members were asked to indicate which candidate they believe is best qualified to serve in the position for which he or she is running. Members did not have to vote in every race. The results are strictly the opinions of the individual attorneys returning their ballots and are not intended as an endorsement of any candidate or candidates by either the Austin Bar Association or any affiliated organization.
The purpose of the Judicial Preference Poll is to give the general public an opportunity to see how local attorneys evaluate the judicial candidates appearing on the ballot for the March primary.
Early voting starts today for the March Primaries. Please visit the Travis County Election Division Web site for information on early voting locations.

Women's Resource Fair Needs Your Help, March 27
Date: Saturday, March 27
Location: Schmidt-Jones Family Life Center, 1300 Lavaca Street
The Austin Young Lawyers Association is holding the third annual Women's Resource Fair for homeless and low-income women on Saturday, March 27 between 9 a.m. and 3 p.m. at the Schmidt-Jones Family Life Center, 1300 Lavaca Street (Across from the First United Methodist Church).
Like years past, attendees will be able to access a legal clinic staffed with lawyer volunteers. It will be a one-day only event for the lawyers; they'll just be there to counsel and advise. Any follow-up that's needed will be handled by Texas RioGrande Legal Aid or by a referral to Volunteer Legal Services. Lawyers will be needed for morning (9 a.m. to 12 p.m.) and afternoon (12 p.m. to 3 p.m.) shifts, but of course, if anyone wants to stay all day, that's fine too! Volunteers with a background in public benefits, bankruptcy/collections, domestic violence, and landlord/tenant law are especially needed. Also, general volunteers are needed through out the day to help in shifts of three to four hours.
Contact Jessica Parker-Battle at jessica.parkerbattle@oag.state.tx.us to volunteer for the legal clinic, indicating which shift you are available for.

Travis County E-Filing Program Now Free
The electronic filing program initiated in 2006 reached the significant milestone of 101,665 total filings last week. The 101,665 figure is important because it represents the number of e-filings that were required for the County to fully recover its $203,329 in infrastructure costs associated with e-filing. As a result of achieving cost recovery, the District Clerk will no longer be collecting the $2.00 fee it was authorized to collect for each e-filing it received.
