Pick Me! A Jury of My Peers Needs Your Help this Wednesday

The award-winning program is back this week and we need your help! Wednesday's class and next week's classes all have spots to fill:

  • Wednesday, March 31 - 1:00 to 2:45 p.m. - Akins High School - 1 Judge
  • Tuesday, April 6 - 8:00 to 9:35 a.m. - Liberal Arts & Science Academy - 1 Attorney
  • Tuesday, April 6 - 11:25 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. - Liberal Arts & Science Academy - 1 Judge, 2 Attorneys
  • Wednesday, April 7 - 11:25 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. - Liberal Arts & Science Academy - 1 Judge, 2 Attorneys
The response by the teachers, students, lawyers, and judges has been overwhelmingly positive. Two attorneys and one judge are needed for each classroom to conduct a mock voir dire. It is imperative that we fill these spots and keep our commitment to each class.

Volunteers are needed this Wednesday through April 16 for a variety of class times. Click here to sign up to volunteer and view other open dates. For more information or questions, please contact Brooke Williams at 472-0279 ext. 108 or Brooke@austinbar.org.

Breast Cancer Legal Advocacy Workshop, April 16

Date: Friday, April 16
Time: 8:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.
Location: Brown McCarroll, 111 Congress Ave.

Out of all women born today, one in eight will be diagnosed with breast cancer at some point in their life. Chances are you or someone you know has had some experience with this disease. Cancer patients face a variety of legal problems related to their illness including healthcare concerns, insurance company refusal to authorize needed treatment, and employment related issues. This seminar will provide information to assist attorneys who do not ordinarily handle cases of this type. Attendees will become aware of practices, procedures, and statutory enactments that will help them to assist clients with legal problems resulting from their illness. Information will also be provided on how attorneys can become advocates for breast cancer patients.

The panel will address a number of legal issues related to a breast cancer diagnosis and treatment, including insurance coverage and ERISA issues, labor and employment issues, public benefits, and a comprehensive review of a hypothetical of a patient’s case.
