Austin Bar and AYLA Elections

Annually in May, both the Austin Young Lawyers and Austin Bar hold elections for the next year's officers and directors. This year, the Austin Bar board candidates are uncontested, and therefore will not require a vote. Early voting for AYLA directors and officers began on Friday, April 9. If you are a member of AYLA, you should have received an e-mail form Ballot Box on April 9. You may choose to vote in person rather than online by coming to the AYLA office at 816 Congress Ave., Suite 700.

Two attorneys and one judge are needed for each classroom to conduct a mock voir dire. It is imperative that we fill these spots and keep our commitment to each class.

Click here to sign up to volunteer and view open dates. For more information or questions, please contact Brooke Williams at 472-0279 ext. 108 or Brooke@austinbar.org.

Celebrate the 20th Anniversary of the Bench Bar Conference, April 30

Join the Austin Bar Association and the Austin Young Lawyers Association in celebrating the 20th anniversary of the Bench Bar Conference April 30 at the Austin Country Club. To honor this milestone, organizers have designed a program to encourage discussion between the bench and bar regarding practice in Travis County through panel presentations with audience participation and collaboration.

Those not attending Bench Bar can still attend this year's Law Day Luncheon, featuring Justice Eva Guzman of the Texas Supreme Court as the keynote speaker.

Close to 30 judges will be attending this year and tickets are only $35. After a full day of CLE, attendees will be treated to a wine tasting, dinner, and game night with judges. Click here for a registration form. In addition to Justice Guzman, the lunch will feature awards presented to Ann Forman (posthumously); Phil Friday; Chief Estela Medina; De Leon & Washburn; and Iris Gibson. RSVP to Marissa Lara-Arebalo at Marissa@austinbar.org.

Donate Your Time to LegalLine

Lawyer Referral Service’s monthly LegalLine is an invaluable resource to the public offering brief legal advice over the phone. Lawyer volunteers use the LRS office to help callers determine if further legal help is required. If more assistance is needed, callers are referred to LRS for a consultation with a lawyer or to other community service organizations for assistance.

As of now, volunteers are needed for June 1, July 6, and Aug. 3. Contact Shawn Jamail at Shawn@austinbar.org to participate.
