State Bar Annual Meeting June 21-22 - Register Today
The State Bar of Texas' Annual Meeting will be here before you know it. Take advantage of this opportunity to
relax and get out of town for a couple of days - and earn a substantial amount of CLE credit while you're at it.
To register,
click here to visit the State Bar Web site.
Among the many CLE offerings, the State Bar of Texas Public Affairs Committee is hosting a panel discussion on
open government. The event will be held at 1:30 p.m. on Friday, June 22, at the San Antonio Convention Center as
part of the State Bar of Texas Annual Meeting.
A similar program offered during the State Bar's annual conference last year in Austin was very well-attended and of
interest to representatives of counties, cities, school boards and officials responsible for compliance with open meetings
and open records laws.
The event is not a training, but a forum for exploring the issues from several perspectives. For more information,

Animal Welfare Committee Needs Your Help
A rabies quarantine just established at the Austin Humane Society has canine residents at the facility compounding the
meaning of the phrase "dog days of summer." In an effort to protect animals and employees, up to forty dogs at the
Austin Humane Society are being quarantined after a dead bat found on the premises tested positive for rabies.
If you've ever been confined to your room with the flu or chained to your desk prepping for trial, you have some concept
of what the animals affected by this episode are about to endure.
In order to alleviate the tedium of the 90-day quarantine, the Austin Humane Society is specifically requesting donations
of toys, rawhides, or cash from the community. Bar members are asked to set up a donation box at their firm and contribute
toys, bones, or cash, which will be picked up by committee members. Please turn all donations in by Friday, June 22.
For more information, please contact Katherine Howard at katuset@yahoo.com.
