A second session is scheduled for Tuesday, July 27 from 8:00 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. at the VA Outpatient Clinic. We are looking for attorney volunteers, especially those who handle traffic tickets, criminal law, family law, bankruptcy, or wills/estate planning, to help these veterans in need! We particularly need at least one or two more criminal law attorney volunteers for the upcoming clinic.

Veteran Mentors Wanted for the Veterans' Treatment Court

The Honorable Mike Denton, Presiding Judge for the Travis County Court at Law No. 4, will be supervising a new special docket for veterans. One of the resources the court will offer is a veteran volunteer program to provide mentorship to those individuals whose cases will be heard in the new court.

Judge Denton invites veterans who would like to volunteer their time and energy to serve as mentors. The volunteer veteran mentors are not expected to offer advice about treatment or therapy, meet with their mentees outside the court, be on call for their mentees, or provide any advice about legal matters. Mentors are expected only to be present and offer the support and understanding that only a fellow veteran can offer.

If you would like to volunteer, please e-mail Ted Hughes, Veterans Resource Coordinator with your e-mail and telephone number at ted.hughes@dshs.state.tx.us.
