Seeking Helpful 'Habaneros' for Gala 2010: A Night in Havana
This year's Gala Committee is already looking for helpful 'Habaneros' that would be interested in serving on the Austin Bar and AYLA Gala Auction Committee. This team will solicit donations ranging from adventurous to luxurious to relaxing for the Silent and Live Auctions.
We appreciate all the effort of our attorney volunteers. The annual Austin Bar Foundation Gala is an integral fundraiser that finances the many community oriented projects of the Austin Bar Association. Without the generous amount of time and donations made by members like yourself, the Gala could not continue to be the success it has been in years past.
If you are interested in participating, please e-mail Debbie Kelly at debbie@austinbar.org.

Clean Out the Pantry - "Food From the Bar" Anti-Hunger Program Needs Help!
Texas Women Lawyers, along with the Travis County Women Lawyers Association, is working together to raise over $10,000 in donations of cash or food to benefit the Capital Area Food Bank. The need for emergency food assistance in Central Texas has grown 60 percent this year. The second annual "Food From the Bar" campaign will provide food for children during the summer months when no subsidized school lunches are offered.
Every dollar and can counts! The most needed nonperishable items are canned tuna, stew, and chili in pop-top containers; canned green beans and corn; pasta and pasta sauce; pinto beans and rice; healthy cereal; peanut butter; ready-to-eat baby formula, and baby food. In addition to the food drive, donations are appreciated. The Food Bank can provide 5 nutritious meals for every $1 received.
Through August 6, nonperishable items can be dropped off at the Austin Bar Association office, 816 Congress Ave., Suite 700; Castle Hill Fitness; and various law firms around town. Financial donations to the Capital Area Food Bank are tax-deductible and can be made online here.
For a list of participating law firms, click here. For more information, please contact Susan Morrison at 441-1411 or susan_morrison@lawyer.com.
