Judge Byrne’s Free CLE Series

Topic: Courageous Conversations about Race and Culture – A Look at Implicit Bias
Speaker: Tanya Rollins, CPS State Dispropotionality Manager, Texas Department of Family & Protective Services

The purpose of this training is to provide participants with an overview of how disproportionality occurs within the child welfare system, how personal implicit bias drives some of that disproportional representation of minority children and families within the system, and how each professional can take personal steps to control and monitor their own implicit bias.  Education on how disproportionality is embedded in the structure of the system – in policies, practice, and in the relationship between social workers, agencies, and their clients will be explored. Focus on coming together as a community and partnering to improve the system will be discussed. All discussion will be informed by national best practices to improve outcomes for children and families.
