Labor & Employment Law Section CLE

Topic: Texas Anti-SLAPP in Employment Cases: Defendants’ Superpower
Speakers: Darren G. Gibson, Littler Mendelson; Joseph Y. Ahmad, Ahmad, Zavitsanos, Anaipakos, Alavi & Mensing

The course will begin with an overview of opportunities for dismissal afforded to defendants under the anti-SLAPP statute, known as the Texas Citizens Participation Act (“TCPA”), Chapter 27 of the Tex. Civ. Prac. & Rem. Code. The course will then cover how employment cases can come within the statute, including negative employment reviews as free speech and trade secret and restrictive covenant activities as the right of association. The course will also address the applicability of the TCPA in federal court. The course will conclude by offering practical advice to both plaintiffs and defendants on how to plan for the TCPA in their employment cases.
