Topic: Everything You Should Know About Family Detention

Kate Lincoln-Goldfinch is an Austin immigration attorney who has appeared on NPR and has spoken at presentations across the country about the border detention centers.  This talk is a one hour discussion of the American response to asylum seekers coming to our borders.  She will review a history of asylum law, discuss a rise the detention of immigrants in prisons, including jails for families with small children.  Currently, there are more than 1,000 mothers and children detained in privately-run prisons in Central Texas.  Kate will discuss her work with asylum seekers in detention, tell stories of what they’ve suffered, and offer you ways to get involved.
