State Bar of Texas President Gib Walton with Austin Bar President Jo Ann MericaThe Austin Bar Association recently took top honors in two award categories.

For the second consecutive year, the Austin Bar Association has received the prestigious Award of Merit for mid-size bar associations. Presented by the State Bar of Texas, this award honors local bar associations displaying overall excellence in programs and activities. It is judged on outstanding service to the public and to the profession, member involvement, and outstanding public response and awareness to the bar's programs.

For the fourth consecutive year, the Austin Bar received the Deborah G. Hankinson Access to Justice Award for a local bar association in a large city. The Texas Access to Justice Commission created the Hankinson Awards in 2003 to honor those bar association that have the highest percentage of donations to the Access to Justice Campaign on the State Bar of Texas dues statement.

Thank you to the Austin Bar's Immediate Past President Steve Benesh for his leadership and to the many attorneys whose hard work and generosity led to these honors.
