Your effectiveness as a mediator can be dependent upon your ability to read and work with the psychology of the participants. This presentation will offer a framework for identifying, and collaborating with, the psychology that underlies the positions taken by the parties and their attorneys. The overall goal is to improve your skills at overcoming, rather than inadvertently increasing, psychological resistance to resolution. Focus will be given to recognizing and differentiating between categories of psychological self-protection (with examples from films), and learning the respective "dos" and "don'ts" for reaching an agreement. The program will conclude with practice exercises.
