Topic: Intro to Civil Rights: Advocating for Social Justice During Periods of Civil Unrest and Beyond

Join ABLA and HBAA on Juneteenth for a CLE that provides an overview for attorneys wishing to participate or assist in social justice movements during, and after, periods of civil unrest. 

Learning Objectives:

  • Understand criminal laws and procedure relating to arrests while engaged in protests and acts of civil disobedience.
  • Identify ways attorneys can assist individuals arrested while protesting.
  • Understand civil rights litigation and § 1983 claims involving excess force.
  • Identify ways attorneys can assist victims of police brutality.
  • Understand laws relating to social justice and civil rights organizations.
  • Identify ways attorneys can assist organizations advocating social reform.
  • Understand the legislative process.
  • Identify ways attorneys can advocate social reform through the legislative process.
