Administrative Law Section CLE

Topic: Ensuring Resource Adequacy in the Texas Electric Markets
Speaker: Shelly Botkin, Commissioner at the Public Utility Commission of Texas; Bill Magness, President and Chief Executive Officer of ERCOT

The PUCT is responsible for overseeing the regulation of electric rates and services and competitive wholesale and retail markets.  ERCOT is a nonprofit corporation subject to the oversight of the PUCT and the Texas Legislature that schedules power on an electric grid that connects more than 46,500 miles of transmission lines and over 600 generation units. It also performs financial settlement for the competitive wholesale bulk-power market and administers retail switching for 7 million premises in competitive choice areas.  Commissioner Shelly Botkin from the PUCT and Bill Magness from ERCOT will discuss how these two critical entities work together to manage the Texas electric transmission grid and coordinate generation resources in order to ensure the continuous and reliable flow of electric power to more than 25 million Texas customers.
