Business, Corp., & Tax Section CLE (Remote)

Topic: Introduction to Blockchain and Smart Legal Contracts
Speaker: Brett A. Cenkus, Cenkus Law, PC

There is a lot of hype around blockchain and its ability to disrupt industries, including the potential for smart legal contracts (one type of blockchain use case) to disrupt the legal profession. If even a small amount of the hype translates into reality, blockchain and smart legal contracts will profoundly impact every lawyer’s job.

In this CLE, we will discuss what non-tech lawyers need to know about blockchain and smart legal contracts today to stay knowledgeable and what they will likely need to know tomorrow to stay relevant.

Topics we will cover include:

  • A jargon-free approach to understanding what blockchain technology and smart legal contracts are (and we’ll discuss Bitcoin for good measure)
  • Understanding how blockchain and smart legal contracts currently function and how they are likely to advance in the future
  • Current and near-term use cases for smart legal contracts
  • The regulatory, compliance, and other concerns that smart legal contracts present.
