Judge Byrne’s Free CLE Series

Topic: NAMI Austin Presents Myths of Mental Illness
Speaker: Jessica Miller, M.A., National Alliance on Mental Illness, NAMI Austin Children and Youth Program Coordinator

“Recovery from a mental illness is impossible.” “People who have a mental illness tend to be second-rate workers.” “People who have a mental illness are unpredictable, potentially violent and dangerous.” The myths surrounding mental health are abundant and pervasive and often deter people from getting help when they need it.

This presentation combines information with storytelling, breaks down some of the most common mental health myths and encourages participants to join the movement that’s changing the way our community talks about mental health. This presentation will also include information and descriptions of NAMI Austin’s free programs (specifically a more in depth look at NAMI Basics) within the community.
