Judge Byrne’s Free CLE Series

Topic: Victim Privacy Protections – What are they and how do they impact the work you do
Speaker: Maricarmen Garza, J.D., Victim Rights Group Coordinator at Texas RioGrande, Legal Aid

This program will discuss the various privacy, confidentiality, and privilege protections afforded to victims of domestic violence and sexual assault. Starting with protections afforded through the Violence Against Women Act and ending with the Victim Information Privacy Act (Tex. Family Code Ch. 93), the presenter will discuss the origins and the application of these laws and how victims, lawyers, judges, counselors, and others working with victims may be impacted.
