Judge Martinez Jones Child Welfare Law CLE Series

Topic: Forensic Drug Testing in the Justice System- Pitfalls in the Interpretation of Esoteric Samples
Speaker: Dr. George B. Kudolo, PhD, CPC, FAIC, FACC, University of Texas Distinguished Teaching Professor of Clinical Chemistry & Toxicology and the Chair of the Department of Health Sciences at the University of Texas Health Science Center at San Antonio (DBA UT Health San Antonio)

This training is appropriate for all attorneys involved in child welfare lawsuits, including those representing the state, children, intervenors, and parents. Dr. Kudolo will provide attorneys with information on forensic drug testing as used within the child welfare court system to verify abstinence from drugs and/or alcohol. The basics of forensic drug tests will be covered, along with testing methods. Attorneys will learn about the science of forensic drug testing and learn what the ways to represent their clients when a positive test result has occurred.

Attorneys will also be given information on race and ethnic differences in the interpretation of drug testing results which will enable them to better represent all races and ethnicities within the child welfare system.
