As attorneys, we are often focused on deadlines and client management, which can create opportunities for wrongdoing from within the firm. Annually, employee theft costs US businesses $50 billion, with small and mid-sized businesses accounting for 68% of the total. In this CLE, Vu Le will discuss financial fraud as it occurs in small businesses, particularly law firms. We will cover the elements of fraud, why people steal, and what circumstances must be present before someone can steal. We will then cover the more common ways employees might steal as well as strategies to detect, minimize and deter it.
