Community Projects

The Austin Bar Association organizes several projects within the community, including Austin Adoption Day, a  free legal advice clinics for veterans, and a CANLAW Clinic for cancer patient and survivors. Central Texans who are unhappy with how much they have been charged by lawyers may also fill out a form for a fee dispute, and if both parties agree, the Austin Bar will hold a formal mediation between the attorney and client.

Austin Adoption Day
For almost 20 years, members of the Austin Bar Association, along with Child Protective Services, Gardner-Betts Juvenile Justice Center, Adoption Coalition of Texas, CASA of Travis County, and Travis County Children’s Protective Services Board celebrated the finalization of adoptions in Austin on the first Thursday of each November. Austin Adoption Day is part of a national effort to recognize adoptive families and bolster attention to the continuously growing need for foster and adoptive homes.

Austin Bar Veterans Assistance Programs
The Austin Bar Association organizes a free legal advice clinic once a month at the Austin VA Outpatient Clinic for all U.S. veterans. Attorney volunteers provide brief, legal advice at no cost and with no appointments during these clinics.
