AYLA Trial Institute: The Rosenberg Spy Case

Presented by the Austin Young Lawyers Association and the American College of Trial Lawyers

Based on the historic espionage trial of Julius and Ethel Rosenberg, AYLA Trial Institute will showcase some of Texas’s best trial attorneys performing opening statements, direct examinations, cross examinations, and closing arguments. It will also include lectures and panels featuring judges and trial attorneys discussing each trial skill in turn. The event will count for 8.5 MCLE hours, include lunch and refreshments, and will conclude with a happy hour reception.
 
All trial performances will be presented by members of the American College of Trial Lawyers—arguably the most preeminent collection of trial lawyers nationwide.

Attorneys of All Ages and Experience Levels

Though hosted by AYLA, this event is meant to provide useful education and examples for trial lawyers of all ages and experience levels. AYLA membership is a prerequisite for registering to attend, but AYLA membership is likewise available to attorneys of all ages and experience levels either as a Regular Member, Sustaining Member, or Law Student Member. Prospective attendees can use this link to register to become an AYLA member.

The Houston Young Lawyers Association has opened up their Earth Day CLE course to AYLA to attend. The online CLE will be held on Thursday, April 20th at 12 p.m. on Zoom and the topic is "Earth Day of Service CLE - Black, Brown & Green: Examining the Effects of Environmental Inequity in Houston."

As the Board of the Environmental Law Section of the Austin Bar Association prepares for the conclusion of the current bar year, all bar positions will become available. We welcome you to serve on the Board! If you are interested in running for a position as an officer, please e-mail Morgan Johnson, Environmental Law Section, Communications Chair the following by Friday, March 31, 2023:
 
1. a statement of interest (that includes your contact information and relevant environmental law experience), and
2. an indication of the position for which you desire to run.
 
The officer positions for the Section are: Chair, Chair-Elect/Membership and Communications Chair, Treasurer, Secretary, and CLE Chair. For the 2023 nomination and election cycle, officers terms will begin July 1, 2023, and run through the next nomination and election cycle occurring in 2024. Subsequent officer positions will be one-year terms.   

Voting on officer positions shall be conducted via electronic ballot. The decision of the officer selections will be announced on or before May 31, 2023. If you have any questions about the nomination or election process, please contact Morgan Johnson or Lecelle Clarke.

The Austin Bar Association Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion Committee is hosting a book club discussing the book Radical Dharma: Talking Race, Love, and Liberation. The meeting will be on April 13 at 12:00 at Hilgers House. Judge Denise Hernandez will lead the discussion on the question by the authors, Rev. Angel Kyodo Williams, Lama Rod Owens, of how teachings that transcend color, class, and caste are hindered by discrimination and the dynamics of power, shame, and ignorance. We look forward to you joining us in sharing space on these important questions leading to dynamic conversations. The event is free and lunch is available for purchase.
