The new courthouse has officially opened and there are 4 jury trials this week –

  • Judge Mangrum is hearing a car accident case.
  • Judge Mauzy is hearing an employment discrimination case.
  • Judge Guerra Gamble is hearing a medical malpractice case.
  • Judge Cantu Hexsel is hearing a family law case.

We are developing an app that will push notices out re: bar and section meetings as well as jury trials. It should be up and running soon.

Parking – There was supposed to be over 500 spaces at the new courthouse. It is our understanding that they ran into a water table issue, and now there is parking for 335. As some courthouse personnel will be working remotely a few days a week, there may some room in the future for Austin Bar members to park. They will be doing a parking study over the next few months to see how many spaces are available each day. For now, here is a map of available parking. Not included on the map is the Moody Bank parking garage that is located on Guadalupe Street in between 15th & 16th.

In the near future, there will be five levels of underground public parking, which will be the base of a new, pedestrian-oriented Texas Mall. This tree-lined promenade will be located on Congress Avenue between 16th Street and Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard, and will serve as the northern gateway to the Capitol Complex. Further details will be forthcoming.

The Texas Fair Defense Project has launched a statewide pro bono program to recruit, train, and supervise pro bono attorneys to join us in the fight to end the criminalization of poverty. Through the program, pro bono attorneys can assist low-income Texans in their communities with Class C misdemeanor cases to help Texans restore their driver’s licenses, and with expunction and nondisclosure cases to help Texans better access jobs and housing. We ask you, the legal community, to join us in our efforts to support low-income Texans through pro bono service.

Ready to sign up to be a pro bono attorney? Fill out our Pro Bono Questionnaire. Want more information or want to get your firm or organization involved? Click here or email Hans Maverick at  or Yvonne London.

A team of Baylor University students compete nationally in trial advocacy using a fabricated case from the American Mock Trial Association. This tournament will take place at Baylor Law School on February 25 and 26 and will qualify its winners to compete at the Opening Round Championship Series in March. We must rely on judges to make this tournament a reality.

We would be honored if you would consider judging. As an attorney, you have the unique opportunity to use your expertise and experience to make a lasting impact on the lives of aspiring attorneys. We will provide you with any and all information you will need, so you will only need to bring your own experience.

For more information please click here and and if you are interested in volunteering, please fill out this form so we can know who to expect and when. We will be in touch with more details as the event approaches.
