This CLE will present options for supports for fathers involved in child welfare cases in Travis County. Advocates will learn how to support their clients through fatherhood support services that will help alleviate concerns that initiated child welfare proceedings. Lawyers will understand what the services are, how they can be integrated into court ordered family service plans, and how to utilize this knowledge to advocate on behalf of their client’s in the child welfare court.

The District Courts and County Courts at Law will be holding the 2022 Spring Settlement Week on the week of April 4, 2022.  This will be a virtual event and provides 5 days for litigants to conduct negotiations and potentially settle civil and family cases with the assistance of a volunteer mediator.  Interested parties can find an application and additional information about Settlement Week in the Application Packet

In addition to inviting attorneys and parties to consider submitting their case(s) to Settlement Week, the Courts would like to invite attorneys to volunteer to serve as mediators.  The application to serve as a Volunteer Mediator is also found in the application packet.

VLS seeks volunteer attorneys to serve as Probate Specialists at VLS legal advice clinics.  Every week, VLS serves multiple families needing advice on probate and estate planning.  In order to keep up with the demand for this type of advice, Probate Specialists will dedicate at least one morning or evening each month to provide advice.  We are seeking experienced attorneys who are comfortable providing advice on complex, contested probate cases.  Alternately, VLS also seeks back-up Probate Specialists, who are willing to be on hold as substitutes in the event a scheduled Specialist is unavailable.
